Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino described his players as “super heroes” after they pulled off a sensational victory against Ajax on Wednesday night.
And now it’s been revealed that Mr Pochettino was speaking quite literally, as he has begun negotiations to sign Spider-Man in the forthcoming summer transfer window.
“I feel that Spidey can offer our squad so much. I’ve studied his videos intently and this guy is incredibly versatile,” Mr Pochettino enthused.
“His ability to spin a web, coupled with tremendous agility, means that goalkeeper is an obvious position for him. I doubt that opposing centre forwards will be able to get one in the back of our net when he is between the sticks.
“But Spider-Man is also capable of moving forward quickly, a quality that every team covets in an attacking midfielder. I’m not exaggerating when I say he could be the new Frank Lampard.”
After news of the negotiations between Tottenham and Marvel Comics leaked out, other Premier League clubs jumped on the super heroes bandwagon.
It’s long been known that Manchester United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has deep concerns about his current line up of defenders.
The Norwegian coach is now being linked with a move to sign up the Fantastic Four in a wholesale clear out of the current back line at Old Trafford.
Manchester United fan Roy Robson said: “I can definitely see the Fantastic Four working well for us. They’ve been together as a tight unit for a long time and know each other’s game inside out.
“The Human Torch would show scorching pace going up and down the wing, while Thing has incredible strength in the heart of the defence. He’d have to watch his temper though, we don’t want him giving away free kicks in vulnerable areas of the pitch.”
