New movie “Rub & Tug” has landed Scarlett Johansson in more hot water. After last year’s “Ghost In The Shell”, which saw her heavily criticised for taking a Japanese role away from Japanese actors, she’s at it again – playing a Trans man in a new movie by the same director.
Yes, we were shocked that Johansson keeps getting acting work too.
Johansson’s official statement suggested journalists “can be directed to Jeffrey Tambor, Jared Leto, and Felicity Huffman’s reps for comment.”
Hillary Swank, who won acclaim for her portrayal of a trans man in “Boys Don’t Cry” was said to be outraged “How come she doesn’t mention me? I won a fucking Oscar.” Said the former actress turned paraplegic boxer.
It’s not just the Trans community who’ve come out against Johansson.
Billionaire playboy Christian Bale was said to be outraged, while professional ice dancer Will Ferrell admitted that the protestors had a point about authenticity. Dustin Hoffman was too busy counting toothpicks to comment.
Yes – outrage because an actor dares to take on a role playing someone other than themselves. And it this may not be the last time…
… as we hear Johansson also has plans to marginalise ice-cool black detectives and Volkswagen Beetles later this year.
