Nigel Farage says he will not be completing the 200-mile March to Leave, or Brexit Betrayal march from North East England to Westminster despite asking supporters to join him.
Launching the event last month, the former UKIP leader tweeted: “We’re marching from Sunderland to London… get your walking boots on!”, but now admits he will walk only “some of it.”
But if he moves his legs up and down in the back of a chauffeur driven car, that still counts.
“If politicians think they can walk all over us, then we’re going to march back and tell them they can’t.” added Nigel.
A sentiment the participants of the walk understand all too well after being clearly used as a self-promotional vehicle by Mr Farage.
Campaign group Led By Donkeys, stated that Mr Farage doesn’t represent them. “He’s organised this march with his millionaire friends and a Westminster lobbying firm while all the time pretending this march is a grassroots thing,” said a spokesman.
Disillusioned participants of the walk are considering rebranding the event as ‘March to Leave Nigel Farage in Brussels’.
British Members of the European Parliament (MEPs), including leading Brexit campaigner Nigel Farage, will be in line for a “golden goodbye” pay out of over €6m (£5.3m) when the UK leaves the EU.
Nigel Farage, the former UKIP leader who remains a group leader in the European Parliament, is set to receive around €169,000 (£150,000).
This excludes other benefits, including free private healthcare for himself and family members in perpetuity and generous pension allowances.
MEPs are legally entitled to the money. The compensation will not be paid by the EU, but by the British taxpayer via the Brexit divorce bill, which many of the MEPs say should not even exist.
“But if they really do fudge this and the British parliament betrays the will of the people and if effectively we don’t Brexit before the next set of European elections and we have to contest those elections I will be there in the front line contesting those elections and I will give them, the establishment a result which they can’t even bear to look at.” blasted Nigel.
The organisers of the March to Leave Nigel Farage in Brussels state they will be arriving before the 23rd of May.
Nigel has pledged his full support and committed to walking “some of it”.
