Liverpool have a record lead at the top of the Premier League following their win at the weekend and Man City’s defeat to Tottenham.
But Man City’s owners have said they will still win the league as it’s the will of their supporters.
City spokesman Bob Bobson dismissed the lack of belief in his players to turn around a 22 point gap as ‘project fear’ and said ‘we’ve won the league before so to say we won’t win it again this year is just defeatist.’
Bobson said that ‘just because Liverpool are heading towards the end of the season with a massive points gap and a position of strength, we ‘shouldn’t be fooled into thinking we can’t still win.’ He insisted there are ‘plenty of points knocking about’ and said it was ‘foolish’ to think we won’t get some from somewhere because ‘logic and reason are no match for a few people blindly ignoring facts and chanting anti-Liverpool songs.’
He blamed City’s inconsistent form this season on the number of foreign players ‘coming to the club and stealing our jobs.’
With 252 goals in all competitions, Argentinian Sergio Aguero is Man City’s all-time leading goal scorer.
Bobson said he acknowledged this and that in actual fact he only meant foreigners who ‘don’t come over here and score loads of goals.’ He also said that ‘obviously it’s ok for foreigners to come to the club and like, you know clean the toilets or serve food’ and that essentially as long as they don’t live near him he’s not really that bothered but that he will continue to use them as a scapegoat anytime Man City look like they might lose a game.
