Ellen Degeneres has responded to online criticism brewing over her friendship with former president George W Bush.
Bush is a highly controversial figure due to the numerous human rights atrocities caused by the Iraq War, that many believe he is responsible for.
To make matters worse, Degeneres is also facing criticism for her friendship with other dictators and war criminals, including Idi Amin, Robert Mugabe, Kim Jong-Un, and Vladmir Putin.
It is believed that Degeneres’ varied social circle of dictators comes from an inspiring ability to see the good in others to such an extent that an ‘aww shucks’ personality overrides a decade of war crimes.
Degeneres defended her actions saying “I’m friends with a lot of people who don’t share the same beliefs that I have.”
“For example, Me and George Bush have different viewpoints. He believes it was fine to use depleted uranium ammuniton on Iraqi citizens; something that has resulted in ongoing birth defects and deformities. I however, have no opinion on the matter.”
Degeneres, a well known Lesbian, is being called a hypocrite for her relationship with Bush, whose Presidential term was well known for attempts to prevent LGBT rights.
Degeneres said that people need to ‘Be kind to one another’, a sentiment clearly shared by President Bush when, in 2004, he came out in support of a proposed constitutional amendment that would have banned same-sex marriage.
Ellen has refused to apologise for her actions, and has inspired others to hopefully reach a stage where they no longer view others by race, gender, or political opinions, but by wealth bracket.
