Chelsea and England footballer Danny Drinkwater has been charged with drink-driving after a car crash.
Drinkwater says he’s ‘pleased as punch’ to have equalled former England captain Wayne Rooney’s drink-driving record.
Apparently still employed by Chelsea, Drinkwater said, “It’s long been my ambition to be considered in the same regard as England lej Wayne Rooney.”
The midfielder was arrested after a Range Rover crashed in Mere, Cheshire, in the early hours of Monday.
Drinkwater has always wanted to be Wayne Rooney, emulating him in every way possible. Even to the extent of driving a plastic, ride-on Toys R Us VW Beetle and falling out of the door in a pretend drunken stupor.
After that happened, his au pair pretended to be a super barrister and got him quite a lenient sentence in front of the judge – a teddy bear called Snuggles.
Drinkwater was only 23 back then.
He remained a key part of the Leicester side that won the Premier League in 2015-16.
He then moved to Chelsea for £35m and, in every season since, has been awarded the Scott Parker Award for Services to the First Team.
Drinkwater now hopes to take his new skills to America, where he hopes to emulate Rooney further – by dating a few grannies.
Drinkwater joins a long list of high profile footballers to have convictions related to the consumption of alcohol.
He now stands joint-second in the all-time ex-England international alcoholism conviction tables with Rooney, both on one. Paul Gascoigne is still top with 1,654.
