Chris Packham was booed at the TV choice awards
after the crowd of mainly celebrities realised he was Chris Packham.
The naturalist took to the stage on behalf of BBC’s The Blue Planet which won the award for Best Factual Programme,
to murmurings of ‘Hasn’t Max Headroom let himself go?’ But once he began speaking and the assembled celebs felt their skin crawl and their ears bleed, they twigged who he was and began to boo loudly.
Packham was critical of ITV’s I’m A Celebrity, saying the show was cruel to animals. One of ITV’s most popular shows, I’m A Celeb was awarded Best Reality TV Show with the award being picked up by Holly Willoughby.
Equally blonde, equally irritating, but with big boobs, Willoughby received rapturous applause.
Packham, though, was not just critical of ITV. He accused the media of only showing nature at its ‘very best’.
ITV bosses denied the claim, citing ‘the naked breasts of Noel Edmonds and Harry Redknapp’ as evidence.
Packham went on to encourage media companies to start giving the public ‘the truth’
at which point the compare intervened and asked the crowd to show their appreciation for ‘a poor man’s David Attenborough.’
