China turns on controversial ‘gene editing’ scientist Professor He Jiankui,
The international science community has begged China to turn him off again.
China condemns Professor He – who created the world’s first genetically edited babies last year -illegally, independently, and “in pursuit of fame and fortune”.
In the same way all scandals work – the Chinese government definitely, absolutely, 100% had no idea about the nefarious activities of Professor He until the truth was uncovered by investigators.
They claim to have been under the impression his work actually involved creating a range of super comfortable and stylish jeans to rival Levis in the Chinese market.
Many believe that scientists like Professor He shouldn’t be ‘playing God’.
Although Professor He argues that as China is officially a non-religious Communist state, he was simply ‘playing China’.
Professor He recruited eight couples to participate in his experiment, resulting in two pregnancies – including baby twins Lulu and Nana, who were born in November.
The international scientific community has raised concerns that human gene manipulation could eventually lead to a race of superhuman mutants splicing off from society, taking over the world in a military coup and forcing humanity into slavery.
On the other hand, these concerns are probably farfetched and overblown.
All hail our mutant overlords!
