Steve Coogan was clocked driving his Porsche at 36 mph in a 30mph zone in East Sussex.
Alan Partridge mocked the silly excess saying, “I’m ashamed. Swoop down over a field. Scare a donkey so that it falls into the river.” But just 6 mph over the limit was not really speeding, he felt, adding,”That was like watching a giant Michael Bolton lookalike, in a tight vest, throwing an oven over bales of hay.”
When Alan was asked about Steve’s driving style, he said, “Uphill runs become power sappingly mundane whilst overtaking National Express coaches becomes a long, drawn-out affair.”
Steve would have been banned for 6 months from driving as he had already clocked up nine points.
“And I don’t know what this man is playing at! No way! Surely the judges must come down like a ton of bricks on that.”
But due to the upcoming filming in cars, the judges reduced the sentence to two months.
“In 1974 I was catching the London train from Crewe station. It was very crowded; I found myself in a last-minute rush for the one remaining seat…”, adding since then he had never been on a train.
“You couldn’t put him on a train because that not who he is. It’s part of his character that he drives,” confirmed Steve as he asked for leniency.
But Alan Partridge was not impressed. ““No offence, but your life is technically not worth insuring.”
